Adding Recipes in Internallinking.io

What are recipes?

Recipes specify which pages will link to other pages and how the linking will work. Recipes help you control how internal links are distributed across your site, ensuring that important pages get the visibility and authority they need.

You can create multiple recipes for a single internal linking module.

What is a module?

A module is a block of links that can be displayed in different places on a page. You can add as many modules and recipes as you need.

Adding a New Recipe

To add a new recipe, click the "Add Recipe" button and choose from predefined templates or start with a blank recipe. Templates provide predefined linking rules. For example:

Once you have created a new recipe or selected a template, you can edit and customise it whenever necessary.

Define the Position

The position refers to the module on the page where the links will appear (e.g.: footer). You can create multiple modules for a single page, each with its own recipe.

Set Relevance Scores

The relevance scores range from 1-10.

  • 1: the pages are unrelated, which allows more links but with less relevance.
  • 10: the pages are virtually identical in topic, which ensures only highly relevant links are shown.

Set Nearby Radius

This might not be applicable for all sites or pages. For pages that have a location, you can set a nearby radius. Internallinking.io will then geocode the location and link out to pages that are within that radius.

This is particularly useful for sites that refer to geographical location often, or consider this an important aspect of their business.

Linking from and to

In the recipe, you can define which pages to link from and to. For example: link blog posts to product pages, or category pages to related articles. You can add rules like 'only link to pages with a minimum relevance score of 6' or 'only link from pages in blog pages' to filter source pages.

Boosting Links

Boosting links artificially doubles the number of internal links to specific pages. For example:

  • Boost links to pages ranking between positions 4 and 15 in search results
  • Boost links to high quality pages

Boosted pages get crawled more, can receive double the inlinks and dramatically improve CTR, traffic and revenue.
